OTI had a great weekend with Night’s Watch and Romancer winning in New Zealand followed by Gallic Chieftain at Pakenham.
Night’s Watch kicked off the day on Saturday by breaking his maiden in a 1200m event at Ellerslie. Jumping the gates a bit slow, the gelding picked up the pace quickly to finish off the race strongly. The 3-year-old son of Redwood has shown impressive form in his early preparation and will be targeted towards the 2017 NZ Derby. Click here to view Night’s Watch’s win on debut.
Romancer, another 3-year-old by Redwood, made it an OTI double at Ellerslie with a strong win in the Listed Mufhasa Stakes over 1300m. The Donna Logan trained gelding looks to be a serious horse with 2 wins and a second from only 3 starts. He will also be targeted to the 2017 NZ Derby. French import Gallic Chieftain recorded his first win in the blue and gold hoops at Pakenham on Saturday afternoon. In his third start since coming to Australia, the four-year-old put himself right in the race before showing his good staying ability to win impressively by 2 lengths. Still only a three-year-old in European time, the Weir trained colt is a genuine stayer that looks poised to rise up the ranks in the coming years.
