Many of OTI’s connections remember last year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final all too well, when talented mare Toregene took home the win for Matthew Williams and Dean Yendall. We’re excited to be back this year in the final on Oaks Day with 4yo gelding Belthil, trained by Andrew Bobbin.
The talented son of Telperion had plenty to learn when starting his Australian career with Andrew Bobbin, but has come a long way with his manners since. His race record of four victories and three placings from eleven starts, proves not only his talent but also his will to win.
Three starts into his current preparation and he has recorded his first metro win at Caulfield, as well as two third placings in the MCCC Series Heats when trying to secure his spot in the final, which he has now successfully done.
“He’s going really well. He didn’t have the best barrier at Bendigo and got a bit further back than ideal, but he looked like he wanted that little bit more distance so I think the race over a mile on Thursday on a big track will be perfect for him. Unfortunately we have drawn barrier 17, but Harry Coffey knows the horse well and will get him into the race.” said trainer Andrew Bobbin.
Belthil will carry 57.5kg in Thursday’s race over 1600m. Click here to see the full field and all race details.
Best of luck to all connections!
