While we weren’t actively seeking to purchase at the Magic Millions Sale, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to act on Phillip Stokes’ recommendation to secure an interest in a quality Brave Smash yearling.
Brave Smash has made an impressive start to his stud career, with progeny including recent G1 winner Kimochi and multiple stakes winner Brave Mead. Phillip Stokes also trains Sweethearted, a promising 3-year-old by Brave Smash, who won impressively earlier in January and will likely target stakes races in the autumn. Having purchased Sweethearted for $140,000 at the 2023 Inglis Classic Sale, Phillip saw plenty of similarities between the two. Alongside his trusted bloodstock agent, he quickly recommended that we join him.
Now a gelding, he boasts a strong European pedigree on his dam’s side. His dam, Loolwah (by the legendary Pivotal), was a winner at two in Europe, suggesting our gelding should show precocity. With a second dam by Street Cry and a third dam by Sadler’s Wells, his bloodlines are exceptional.
Physically, he impressed on inspection with his big frame, deep girth and strong hindquarter. He is light on his feet, with enough length across his middle to suggest he will develop into a miler in time.
The gelding commenced his breaking in process at the start of February and is taking to things very nicely.
