This son of New Bay out of the Fastnet Rock mare, Mt of Beatitudes, called Collioure, has impressed since first being broken in by renowned educator Philip Baratte in Normandy. Moved to his trainer, Fabrice Chappet earlier this year, the colt has continued to excel and is expected to have his first race start in November.
This strongly built colt, standing 16 hands, is poised to feature in the three-year-old Classics in France in 2025. Being French bred, he also qualifies for the 75% premiums on top of prizemoney earned during his two and three-year-old season.
The superlatives around his young stallion, New Bay, continue to grow throughout Europe. This son of Dubawi has made an ultra-impressive start. His first two crops produced 17% stakes performers to runners, and he is rated the leading European sire for his 3rd and 4th crops. In 2022, New Bay had a better percentage strike rate for siring stakes winners than Galileo, Frankel, Kingman, and his own sire, Dubawi.
Our initial attraction to Collioure was because of the female side of the family. Feathertop, a winner for OTI when with Jessie Harrington in Ireland, has recently arrived to continue her career in Australia. She shapes as a high-class staying mare. Winners for OTI, Casterton (at Listed level) and Fastnet Cyclone are three-quarter brothers to Mt of Beatitudes. Further down the female line, there are numerous top-quality horses including the champion racehorse and sire, High Chaparral. It is suffice to say that, on breeding, Collioure’s pedigree has a lot going for it.
