Shamus Award x Pirellina ’22

OTI is delighted to present a 2-year-old gelding by Shamus Award who will be trained by Mark Walker at Cranbourne. Possessing all the attributes that we’re looking for in a ‘ready to run’ purchase, we’re excited to see him in the OTI silks.

Bred to excel over distances beyond 2000m, the gelding displayed a most impressive breeze-up performance, clocking 10.29 seconds for the furlong. He displayed a lovely fluent action, matching strides with an Exceed and Excel filly from the same draft, who sold for $600k.

In conducting our inspections, we were taken by his physical presence. The gelding possessed a strong shoulder, deep girth, and moved with great purpose. He passed all of our due diligence, which included a Grade 1 scope.

Prima Park, who offered this gelding, were also responsible for preparing OTI pair Warmonger & Andy Win. Following our purchase, they gave high praise for the gelding and his trainable attitude.

Following a spring break, the gelding will join Mark Walker’s stable at Cranbourne. Mark, in partnership with Te Akau Racing, has enjoyed outstanding success in Victoria since establishing operations in September 2023. While the gelding’s pedigree suggests he will reach his full potential as a 3-year-old and beyond, we would expect to see him get to the track as a 2yo given his physical strength and level of education.

With all costs included to December 31, 2024 and insurance cover to July 31, 2025, a 10% interest in this gelding is $13,800 plus GST. A 5% interest, therefore, is $6,900 plus GST. Note he is also fully paid up for the valuable Inglis Race Series.
