Unusual Prospect is a beautiful, rangy chestnut stayer heading into the care of John O’Shea & Tom Charlton.
After winning his 1200m lead up trial in good time, Unusual Prospect was set the tough task of debuting over 2000m at New Plymouth. Hampered badly at the start and held up multiple times in running, he was very unlucky not to win.
Unusual Prospect’s last furlong was his strongest, breaking 12 seconds, something that was rare on the day. He continued to gallop out well after the line and gave every impression he’ll improve with more racing and a staying test.
His sire, Unusual Suspect has quickly developed a knack of producing quality, late maturing stayers like Unusual Legacy (G1-placed). We’ve had a guide on the breed through She’s Unusual, an impressive city winning mare who looks destined for stakes class racing.
