Following the very disappointing news of Future Score’s scratching from the Melbourne Cup, OTI owners will be represented solely by Selino, the Sydney Cup winner. While the market considers him an outside chance, the race is well known for producing surprises. This year with so few internationally trained horses racing, we’re hopeful that will happen.
From the outside barrier Selino will be challenged to get a position forward of centre field. He is likely to rely on working into the race as horses tire. With little doubt that he will run for 3200m, the stronger the pace the better.
SELINO causes an upset in the Sydney Cup!

A huge result for jockey Ron Stewart and trainer @cwallerracing. pic.twitter.com/HkW7Y3yGFS
Selino‘s jockey, Ronnie Stewart, who won on him in the Sydney Cup, knows the horse and is confident that he can be in the finish in the first group.
Following the Cup, our attention will quickly turn to the Listed TAB Trophy where Spirit of Gaylard will take his place. This colt is a very special horse to his owners as he celebrates the memory of Rob Gaylard, a well-known figure to the Victorian racing public and a good friend to each of the owners. The horse is all the more special as Rob’s wife, Karen is a member of the ownership group.
Mitch Freedman believes the horse is very fit and capable of winning here.
Earlier in the day at Randwick, Holstein is looking to bounce back out to the 1600m journey. So far this preparation he has not shown the form that encouraged OTI to buy into him six months ago. However over a slightly longer journey, Matt Dunn believes that he will settle and is capable of finishing strongly.
