Number 3 – Mark Twain secures his Melbourne Cup ticket
A week is a long time in racing. 7 months between securing a ticket to the Melbourne Cup and getting the opportunity to utilise the ticket is an eternity. However, the dream remains alive for connections of Mark Twain following his barnstorming victory of the Listed Roy Higgins Quality at Flemington in March.
Last throughout the race and still there on straightening, Mark Twain appeared a mile off them at the clocktower, but he sprouted wings late to take the lead in the shadows of the post to record a famous victory.

In a small country Victorian town, the roof of the local drinking establishment was lifted by one raucous family celebrating what their horse had achieved, in what can only be described as ‘scenes!’

Four months on, Mark Twain is progressing well towards his date with destiny on the first Tuesday of November in 2024.
