Quick Thinker returned to form in terrific style on Saturday with a superior staying performance in the Group Two Chairman’s Quality over 2600m at Royal Randwick for Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman.
Although he has not run a place in six starts since winning the Group One Australian Derby (2400m) in April 2020, the four-year-old entire’s owners never wavered on their support for Quick Thinker.
“We knew he had had not lost his ability,” said OTI’s Shayne Driscoll. “It was a matter of finding the right race and conditions for him. We are very thankful to his loyal team of owners for their patience and belief in him”.
The race suited the the So You Think entire down to the soft ground on Saturday. Piloted by Damian Lane, he delivered a convincing win over fellow NZ galloper Rondinella with more than a six length margin to third placegetter Paths Of Glory.
“Obviously, the track was quite testing. They were under the pump a fair way out there, and he was still travelling quite well. Definitely the track conditions have played into his hands,” Forsman said.
“He had a really searching gallop on Tuesday morning and he had a good blow after it. His gallop on Thursday was really good, and I thought that work gave us a bit of confidence going into it.” (Racing News, n.d.)
With total career earnings of over $1.2 million in prize money, and four of his five wins being at Sydney tracks, Quick Thinker is poised for his tilt at the Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) this Saturday with an attractive weight of 53kg.
