OTI’s promising Redwood colt, out of Bak da Chief, touched down in Sydney on Monday night.
The colt has commenced his pre-training at Limitless Lodge before he’ll head to Chris Waller’s Rosehill stables in a fortnight.
The arrival in Australia was exciting news for his new owners and OTI, after purchasing the colt earlier this year.
The colt began his education at Ohukia Lodge, an idyllic and expansive property in Cambridge, New Zealand. Agent, Phill Cataldo, commented that he had developed immensely during his time at Ohukia Lodge and grown into a striking colt with an abundance of presence and character.
“He’s well-balanced, light on his feet and has plenty of speed, although he is bred to be a middle-distance horse,” Cataldo added.
The colt is a half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Te Akau Shark, who has developed a cult-like following. Te Akau Shark, a six-year-old gelding, has won 7 of his 14 starts including the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes this year.
OTI has enjoyed success with Redwood progeny previously including Night’s Watch (two-time Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed), Romancer (Listed winner and Group 2 placed) and a potential rising star in Yosemite (contesting Listed level at her 3rd start on Saturday at Flemington).
The team at OTI are looking forward to seeing the exciting colt enter Chris Waller’s stable and begin his racing career.
