When Annie Alexander visited Sea Crossing in the U.K last month, she immediately drew similarities to OTI’s Group 2 winner, Gallic Chieftain.
“He reminds me in looks and mannerisms to Gallic Chieftain,” Annie reported, highlighting his good conformation and lovely temperament.
Annie’s glowing endorsement and comparison to Gallic Chieftain, who is trained by her husband Archie, certified OTI’s purchase.
OTI’s General Manager Shayne Driscoll said that the three-year-old colt ticked all the right boxes they look for when sourcing European bloodstock.
“It has been hard not being able to get over to Europe to inspect potential purchases over the last 12 months, so having Annie inspect him while she was in the U.K was very beneficial. When she reported back with such a positive assessment, we had no hesitation in purchasing the colt.
“We always like to see proven performance on the track, and this fellow displayed great ability in his three career starts, particularly his maiden win as a two-year-old over a mile,” he added.
Driscoll also underscored the colt’s pedigree as a key factor in the purchase.
“We are a big fan of Sea The Stars as he sired Tall Ship, who won at Listed level twice and placed in a Group 2 for OTI.”
Champion sire and Irish Derby winner Sea The Stars continues to expand his sire credentials, producing over 70 Stakes wins, including Group 1 winners Harzand and Stradivarius.
On the colt’s dam side, he is by the Danehill Dancer mare, Clever Annie, a three-time winner in Italy who has already produced the Group 3 winner Cassina de Pomm.
Sea Crossing is booked to travel from the U.K to Melbourne later this month and will join Archie Alexander’s Ballarat stables.
