OTI have enjoyed tremendous success with Kiwi-bred fillies in recent years. Selica now appears well placed to add her name to that growing list.
Following narrowly being denied in the G3 Auraria Stakes last start, the talented 3-year-old will be out to go one better in Saturday’s G1 Australasian Oaks. Her last start run topped her off perfectly heading into the G1 assignment, her first test over 2000m.
After only joining the Stokes stable earlier this year, the daughter of Makfi has continued to thrive in just her second racing preparation.
Tommy Stokes, who manages father Phil’s Adelaide stable, has been delighted with how she has continued to improve since arriving in South Australia a month ago.
“We’re really happy with her, she’s had a faultless preparation leading into the Oaks this weekend and this is her grand final,” he said.
Being a half sister to the G1 winning mare, Wyndspelle, Selica, with her black type credentials, is already a most valuable filly. A win in Saturday’s race would make her an exceptionally popular broodmare.
Selica has certainly come a long way since her debut win at Moe in September when trained by Mick Kent.
