OTI were thrilled to secure this well-performed son of High Chaparral from Luca Cumani. He has now arrived in Australia. This classic looking 4yo gelding already has 3 wins and 3 seconds to his name out of 11 starts (from 1600m-2400m).
Shakopee’s most recent win was at his last start on the 15th October 2016 at Wolverhampton over 2400m. He was 5th before the turn, but fought hard to lead the entirety of the straight for a convincing win.
High Chaparral’s are very well performed in Australia – So You Think, now a successful sire in his own right, won 10 Group 1 races and It’s a Dundeel – a 5 time Group 1 winner including the 2014 Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes as well as an AJC Derby.
After a few weeks of acclimatising to the Australian conditions at Woodside Park, this fellow now joins Matt Cumani’s stable at Ballarat. Matt is hoping to have him ready for an Australian debut in March. Already rated 93, he will work his way through the city classes and hopefully onto the cups in the 2017 spring and beyond.
We look forward to his career in Australia.
